New England Workshop on Science & Social Changenewssc06.jpg

The last two years of my tenure in the CCT Program, I was given the opportunity to be a part of the New E ngland Workshop on Science & Social Change. As an apprentice, my responsibilities ranged from administrative support to active participation in workshop activities - an interesting mix! I can well understand why some participants come back year after year; the topic chosen for a workshop is multidimensional with scope for individuals to relate it to their own work as well as in group-initiated activities. I found that attending the workshops stretched me in ways that I needed and provided many opportunities for interpersonal and intellectual growth.

There is much to be said for this kind of rotating, on-going interactive workshop format -- each one has had its own character and "vibe". The people who apply to come to the workshops are willing to step outside their disciplinary boundaries and experiment with new ways of working together and I consider both of the workshops I have participated in to be successes on both counts. The items below give a flavor of both the apprentice activities and an educational unit that came out of the workshop.

I would be interested in attending a workshop in which most of the participants are veterans of previous workshops. Knowing what to expect in terms of style and logistics would foreground the theme of the workshop and might produce some really interesting results
