Becoming a Research Assistant

Following my year in Boston, I became a long-distance Research Assistant for Peter Taylor and Nina Greenwald. While missing out on the day-to-day running of the Program, the RAship nevertheless afforded many opportunities to perform work in other areas such as writing précis for courses, researching assigned topics, investigating and trialing new web-based applications. I count the research done on wikis and the subsequent decision to adopt Wikispaces as one of my most significant tasks; I have subsequently implemented the use of a wiki in my own online teaching to great effect. Being an RA also allowed me to further develop my interests in science, technology, and society by helping to research issues in heritability, for instance. My self-education on these topics has been one of the most rewarding sidelines to my CCT experience. The items below reflect a fraction of the variety of research assignments I undertook.
