The Rs of the CCT Experience: Rationale and connections

WhyRs.2.jpgReading - the reading for my course in Biotechnology was wide-ranging and completely engrossing.

Review - I chose my PlanforPractice as an example of a document that I need to review periodically.

Reasoning [Philosophy Final Paper] - all my philosophy papers could fit into this category; I chose the final paper for what I hoped was a sustained exercise in reasoning.

Relationship with self [Statement of Interest and Intent] - I count the application statement as the start of my journey to become an autonomous learner.

Reflection [Final_Synthesis] - the final synthesis paper is a culmination of reflecting on the place of critical thinking and problem-based learning in library instruction practice.

wRiting - some good examples of what can emerge when you are engaged by the topics you are writing about!

Relationships with others - I found CCT 618 to be one of the most fruitful for establishing relationships with others; I could also say the same of my PBL experience as a whole.

Risk - definitely outside my comfort zone to begin with, I was well rewarded by taking the 'risk' of participating. Negotiating the tasks of an apprentice while simultaneously being taken seriously as a participant was challenging at times.

Rest - is definitely needed from the rigors of thinking, analyzing, writing and reading!

Re-arrange, adapt and create [Notes for Art-of-Dying segments] - this item was chosen for the creativity aspect. Our theme, "The Art of Dying" presented challenges in terms of a 'product' to present. I'm pretty happy with my part in it and with the events I came up with for the mock symposium.

Reception [Synthesis Comments]- to be validated by one's peers is a truly wonderful thing!

Relationships with authority [ELSI article comments] - maybe not so much authority as coming into contact with standards -- standards of publication, that is. I appreciate the guidance given me in this communication and even though the article has yet to be revised, I know what to do when I go back to it.

Revision [Melanie Comments On Paper] - I found the comments on my work from other students to be invaluable. The feedback from Melanie on my Consensus Conferences paper was spot-on and extremely helpful in pinpointing areas that needed further revision and work.

Relaxation - one form of relaxing that we do well in Australia.

Research & Evaluation [Creativity and Aging]- this is another aspect for which I could have picked multiple exhibits. I chose the paper on creativity because it was the first "literature review" that I had attempted in a good while. In this paper I also go into my research process, which is almost a metacognitive approach to the topic.

Respect [CCT 618 Journal Entry] - there were not many times when personalities clashed in any of the courses I took in CCT. This Facilitating workshop may be the only exception! I include it because it shows how I attempted to understand what went 'wrong' in a group activity, especially where respect for each others' points of view and ways of expression are at issue.

Responsibility [Educ Unit NEWSSC06] - sometimes when a conference or workshop is over and you have moved to other things, you may still have outstanding tasks to complete. My selection is the educational unit I created from the NewSSC '06 workshop. I know first hand how hard it is to follow up with people once the reason for your collaboration has ended, so I could hardly fail to turn in the required unit.

Repose - A wonderful environment for reposing!

Recursion and practice [Final Design Project Comments] - I could list many things here under the general theme of integrating critical thinking and problem-based learning into information literacy. I have dealt with this topic in several courses, each time adding something new or trying to see it from another perspective.

Re-evaluation [Action Research Reflection] - for me, frustration happens when I feel muddled and unsure of what direction I'm taking or whether I have really understood a task or assignment. Reflection papers (as well as freewriting) offer an outlet for these occasions and in the course of writing this reflection, I traced back the source of my difficulty to an unfamiliarity with using a new tool.

Reconstruction [Rejuvenation] - I try to give some sense of what the CCT Program means to me. The best gift I can "give back" is to live the knowledge and insights I received every day -- at work and in the world. Gandhi said it all :

You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
